Changing Your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Wagoneer Tires

Before you learn how to change a tire, it’s important to gather up the right tools. You’ll need a jack, lug wrench, spare tire or new tire(s), and your owner’s manual. It’s a good idea to check the air pressure on your spare periodically, so you don’t accidentally replace a flat tire with another flat tire.

Once you have all of your tools in place, it’s time to get to work. Here is a brief overview of the process:

  1. Park somewhere safe where you can work freely. If you get a flat unexpectedly, be sure to move somewhere like the side of the road or an empty lot where you won’t disturb traffic. Turn on your hazards.
  2. Apply the parking brake and place wheel wedges under the other tires to prevent movement.
  3. Remove the wheel cover or hubcap from your working tire, then loosen the lug nuts.
  4. Use the jack to raise your vehicle and remove the lug nuts completely.
  5. Remove the working tire, and mount the new or spare tire. Tighten the lug nuts
  6. Lower your vehicle back to the ground.
  7. Repeat the process if you are changing the entire set.

How Many Miles Can You Go on a Spare Tire?

A spare tire is designed to get you out of a bind, but it’s not designed for long-term durability. As a result, you’ll need to be careful while driving on your spare in Lawerenceburg or Lewisburg. Most spares only last around 50 miles at speeds under 50 mph. Smaller space-saver spares are even less durable, so be sure to replace your tire with a full-size model as soon as possible.

How Often Should You Change Car Tires?

Many drivers wonder how often to change car tires. The answer depends on your driving habits and routine. If you keep up with your tire maintenance regularly, you’ll likely get the full mileage out of your set. If your maintenance is spotty, your tires run the risk of issues like uneven tread wear and blowouts. We recommend keeping up with your tire pressure checks and tread inspections at home, and you can always schedule your service at Sharp Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM for rotations and alignments.
